Malin Head

Hells Hole

A remarkable subterranean cavern and gorge 250 metres long and 8 metres wide, where the sea rushes through a narrow neck into a wide basin where there is a large sea cave.

Hells Hole

The combination of all this causes a deafening thunder roll as the waves plunge in. A pathway leads to a ledge, which is superb for viewing seals. You can also get a bird’s eye view of the cavern and hear the drum-roll as the tide rushes in and out. This is a deep, sheer cut into the land where, following a steep climb down the eastern side you can fish for Pollack from 5 to 15 pounds weight and several types of wrasse from this flat fishing rock. A good quality rod and line is recommended as is a good knowledge of climbing - only the experienced and healthy should ever try this route down!
